    • Establishment & Geography: Established in 1976, this sanctuary spans across an area of 105 square kilometers. Situated at an altitude ranging from 450 to 1200 meters above sea level, its rolling hills, evergreen forests, and the tranquil waters of the Idukki reservoir attract travelers year-round.

    • Ecotourism: The Forest Department organizes trekking, forest safaris, and boating facilities. During boating, visitors can enjoy the sight of wildlife coming down to the water's edge to drink.

  2. KPM Farm (Agri-Tourism)

KPM Farm is a prominent agri-tourism destination in Upputhara. It serves as a model project where a former abandoned quarry was transformed into a stunning farm tourism center.

  3. Kappippara Dam

Kappippara Dam holds an important place on Upputhara's tourism map. Although smaller in scale compared to major dams, its peaceful surroundings and lush green landscapes attract tourists.

    • Natural Beauty & Tranquility: Surrounded by hill slopes and plantations, the dam and its reservoir offer a captivating sight. It is an ideal spot to spend time peacefully away from urban bustle.

    • Evening Hangout & Photography: An ideal destination to relax in the evenings and take photographs. Owing to its scenic backdrop, this area is growing into a favorite location for regional albums and social media reels.

  4. Scenic Hills and Viewpoints

Upputhara features several hill ranges suitable for adventure tourism, trekking, and off-road journeys:

    • Upputhara Pinnacle Viewpoint: Another key hub for soaking in spectacular natural scenery and capturing the beauty of the mountain ranges on camera.

    • Panchalimedu / Panchali Hill: A lesser-known, off-beat hill range blessed with natural splendor. The name stems from local legends claiming that the Pandavas and Panchali stayed here during their exile. It offers a rewarding experience for those who love hiking and photography.

The iconic hit Malayalam film Lucifer was shot at St. Antony's Forane Church in Upputhara.
