Idukki / Upputhara: Beacon of hope for a community that once hesitated to even dream within forest boundaries, this brilliant young woman has triumphed.
Armed with sheer hard work and unwavering determination, Dr. Sharanya Mohan has arrived to serve at her native hospital as the first Assistant Surgeon from the Kannampady Oorali tribal community.
When the beloved daughter of the forest returned as a doctor to heal her own people, it turned into a moment of immense pride and overwhelming joy for the entire region.
Days that Gave Wings to Dreams:
Sharanya is the only daughter of K.N. Mohan and Minimol (Kandathinkara), residents of Punnapara Unnathi in the Kannampady forest region.
Ever since childhood, Sharanya’s ultimate dream was to become a doctor. In 2019, she secured an MBBS admission with the 73rd rank in the Scheduled Tribe category and completed her studies at the Palakkad Government Medical College.
The Upputhara Community Health Center is the primary healthcare lifeline for residents across the eleven tribal settlements in the Kannampady region. Sharanya is overjoyed to return and serve her people—who face numerous hardships, including severe transportation challenges—as a qualified doctor.
"I see this appointment as a true reward for my education and struggles," shares Sharanya.
Her remarkable achievement has filled both her family and villagers with immense pride. Scheduled Tribes Welfare Minister K.A. Thulasi personally called Sharanya to congratulate her and informed her that she would visit her in person during her next trip to Idukki.
Rising straight from her native soil, Sharanya is now fully prepared to serve as a doctor dedicated to the very people she calls her own. ❤️
